Export Potential and Its Determinants among the Chinese Regions

China enjoyed unprecedented economic growth in the 1980s and 1990s. Accompanied this growth was the rapid expansion of export among the Chinese regions. How have the regions exploited their potential in exports? What are the determinants of export performance? Those are some of the questions addressed in this paper. The insights gained in this study should have important policy implications for China’s regional development, in particular the development of the western regions.
